Ways to identify the rod

This domestic rod is being used in building construction. The structure of the building is made of rods. People related to this sector say that there is no way out if there is a lapse in the use of rods in the construction of buildings. If low quality rods are used in construction, the risk is high.
Zayed Sumon, civil engineer of Raisa project of Assurance Development Limited, said, "Many people think of paying less than the cost of building. But there is no substitute for using a good rod. Using good rods reduces the amount of risk to the building. Various rods are now available in the market starting from 3 mm to 4, 5, 8, 10, 20 and 25 mm. However, three types of rods are generally used in building construction. Various types of rods are used in the construction of pilings, slabs, beams or columns. But the rod which can form a good bond with the concrete, that rod is better. 40 grade, 60 grade and 75 grade rods are available in the market. Grade 40 rods are now rarely used. 60 grade rods are generally used in building construction. 75 grade rod is extreme grade. The use of this grade of rod is more in the construction of multi-storied buildings. Rods are generally of two types mild steel (MS) and SS (stainless steel). The way to know a good rod is that it won't rust or have any cracks. The iron will not fall out of the rod if it is given a house. Normally the SS rod does not hold the magnet. Such rods are good. Deformed or grooved rods should be used as they bond better with concrete than plain rods.'
Big buildings and infrastructure are being built in Bangladesh now. Rods and steel made by domestic companies are being used in most of these infrastructures. Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills (BSRM), Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills (KSRM), Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills (RSRM) are reputed rod manufacturers in Bangladesh. Apart from this, companies such as Anwar Ispat, Rahim Steel Mills, Seema, Bashundhara etc. are manufacturing rods. People associated with this industry say that the annual demand of steel in the country is more than 3 million tonnes. At present, more than 400 factories are producing rods in the country. Of these, more than 30 companies manufacture rods in an automated manner.
RSRM manager Shafiqul Haque said, now the risk due to earthquakes or natural disasters is high. This risk is further increased if the building is constructed using inferior quality rods. It is important to buy the rod after confirming the quality of the rod. Basic materials like rods, cement are very important in building construction. Among these, rod-cement is given more importance. A good quality rod avoids major risks.
